Health Challenge: Sustained job stress, recovery and regaining balance.
What happened?
Andy had spent years balancing a demanding leadership role alongside family life and ongoing professional commitments. Like many people in high-responsibility roles, health had gradually slipped down the priority list.
When Andy developed shingles in May 2024, it became a clear signal that something needed to change. The experience prompted him to take a closer look at how stress, workload and daily habits were affecting his wellbeing and to think more seriously about how to support his health in a sustainable way.
“Getting shingles was a real wake up call. It forced me to look honestly at my work-life balance and start prioritising my health in a way I hadn’t before.”
The Shift.
Rather than looking for a quick fixes, Andy wanted a clearer understanding of what was actually contributing to how he was feeling.
As part of Geno 3’s pilot group, he explored his DNA insights alongside a broader view of his lifestyle and health story. Seeing this information together helped him take a step back and recognise which areas were worth focusing on and where small, well-chosen changes could make the biggest difference.
What stood out wasn’t complexity, but perspective.
With clearer priorities, Andy began making changes that felt realistic alongside work and family life. This included changes to diet, nutrition and daily routines, as well as reassessing how his work patterns were impacting stress and recovery.
Because the focus areas felt specific and relevant to him, the changes were easier to maintain over time.
How it felt.
Having that clarity reduced both physical and mental strain.
Andy felt more aware of how different aspects of daily life influenced his wellbeing and he became more confident in the choices he was making.
Instead of pushing through exhaustion, he had a clearer framework for protecting his energy and health.
Where are things now?
Over time, Andy noticed improvements in his overall energy and resilience and has lost over a stone in weight.
He has been able to make more balanced decisions around work and lifestyle, and felt better equipped to support his health in a demanding role.
The biggest shift wasn’t just physical — it was the awareness that health doesn’t improve by doing more, but by focusing on the right things.
