Health Challenge:

Living with Type II Diabetes and planning for long term health.

Following her daughter Jenny’s cancer recurrence in late 2023, Linda began reflecting more deeply on her own health and future. She had experienced on-and-off health issues throughout adulthood and had a family history that included both cancer and dementia.

A few months later, Linda was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. As she moved into retirement, she wanted to understand how to support her physical and brain health in a way that felt informed and realistic, rather than reactive.

The Shift.

Rather than focusing on one result or recommendation, Linda wanted a clearer picture of what her body was indicating overall.

As part of Geno 3’s pilot group, Linda explored her DNA insights alongside blood markers and other health data available through her NHS care. Seeing this information together helped her understand which areas were most relevant for her and where focusing her attention could be most helpful over time.

What stood out was not more data, but clearer priorities.

With a better understanding of her personalised health profile, Linda made changes that felt achievable and sustainable. These included adjustments to her diet, nutrient support, movement, and daily habits as well as being more mindful of environmental factors her body was sensitive to.

Rather than trying to do everything, she focused on a small number of areas that felt most relevant for her stage of life.

How it felt.

Having clearer priorities brought reassurance.

Linda felt more confident in the choices she was making and less anxious about whether she was “doing enough.” With a clearer sense of direction, she found it easier to build supportive routines into her day and enjoys being more active.

Where things are now.

Over time, Linda’s health markers stabilised, her energy improved and she’s now in Type II Diabetes remission. She became more active, incorporating practices like yoga and weekly Nia dance classes into her routine and felt better equipped to support her long-term physical and mental wellbeing as she moved through retirement.

Most importantly, she felt clearer about how to look after her health going forward — without pressure or overwhelm.
